Even while travelling, services rendered by an optometrist can be covered under the PSHCP Vision Care benefit.
Eye exams are eligible for reimbursement once every two calendar years, starting January 1 of each odd calendar year. If you have already submitted a claim for an eye exam within a given benefit period and consult an optometrist while travelling, this second exam will not be eligible for reimbursement.
Exams and procedures performed by an ophthalmologist in an emergency situation are adjudicated under the Plan’s Physician benefit and not the Vision Care benefit. If you are travelling, require an emergency eye exam and have reached your Vision Care maximum, an emergency eye exam rendered by an ophthalmologist may, therefore, be eligible for reimbursement under the plan.
