Later this month, you will notice changes to Sun Life’s PSHCP Member Services Website. The Wellness Center will be replaced with the Lumino Health Centre, a space dedicated to provide health and wellness information.

You will find regularly updated wellness and mental health content available via articles, videos, and podcasts. A provider search tool will also be accessible, along with provincial coverage information.

As we navigate in this time of uncertainty, ensuring that you take care of you mental and physical well-being is important. Remember that the temporary changes to the Medical Practitioners Benefit are still in effect until further notice.

These changes includes the following:

  • An extended list of accepted mental health practitioners. This means that along with psychologists, social workers in all areas across the country, and psychotherapists or counsellors are also temporarily considered eligible mental health practitioners under the PSHCP.
  • The requirement to have a prescription for mental health or physiotherapy services under the PSHCP is temporarily suspended until non-critical business is authorized to resume or as indicated otherwise. Additionally, existing prescriptions for medical services that expired on or after March 20, 2020 will continue to be honored during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
  • Coverage for virtual paramedical services. The PSHCP continues to reimburse eligible expenses that are the reasonable and customary charges for virtual services provided by accepted medical practitioners. The practitioner must be registered in the province or territory where the member resides.

Submit your claim to Sun Life using the standard claims submission process. Claims may be submitted by paper claim, via the Sun Life Plan Member website, or through the my Sun Life Mobile app. Members are encouraged to keep copies of receipts, completed claim forms and any other documentation. Please note that to be covered for the services of a social worker, a psychotherapist or a counsellor, all claims must be sent by mail using a completed PSHCP Claim Form for members with Supplementary Coverage or a PSHCP Claim Form for Out-of-Country Claims for members with Comprehensive Coverage.

If you have any questions about these temporary changes to the PSHCP Medical Practitioners Benefit, please contact the PSHCP Call Centre at 1-888-757-7427 (toll-free) or 613-247-5100 (in the National Capital Region).
